These are 2 Quebec Folk Art Hand Carved Figures from the company Audet.
Hand carved by Quebec folk artist, R. Normand of Montreal. He was a flat-plane carver, active in the 1930's to 1940's.
Usually his carvings were of Quebec figures in traditional costume and situations. He usually painted his work and his carvings were generally smaller, in the 3 1/2 to 5 1/2 inch range.
R. Normand, was one of several flat-plane wood carvers whose carving careers seemed to have stopped sometime in the 40's. The second world war may have been a factor.
Here there are 2 Figures, both Old folks in Rocking Chairs.
One old man and one old woman sit on rockers, her with her hands in her lp and him with one on his knee and one in his pocket. Wonderful detail in the faces.
Her rocker has one broken leg, otherwise these are in excellent condition.
These are very special indeed.
